Navigating Burnout in 2025: Embrace People Leadership
As January ends, many reflect on their ambitious goals for 2025. After the busy holidays, diving headfirst into new aspirations can feel overwhelmingly daunting. To stay motivated amidst these challenges, some people select a guiding word that encapsulates their intentions for the year and provides inspiration during tough times. But the reality is, burnout can strike immediately.
Social media is likely flooded with health hacks and tips on managing cortisol, among other things. We're constantly bombarded with the latest and greatest advice. To make matters worse, this year's cold and flu season is particularly severe. If you're a parent, you might have experienced the chaos of illnesses sweeping through your household, affecting each family member one by one, or even all at once, making time feel like it stands still.
Adding to this, the business world is facing change and uncertainty due to current government unknowns. As a business owner, this can make you question your branding and market positioning. Leaving you in a space of contemplating big changes to stay adaptable during such times.
Burnout is a reality for many, myself included. In January, my father broke his hip while I faced business deadlines. As a small business owner without backup, I had to meet all commitments. Then, my youngest child contracted COVID, and on top of it, DEIA became controversial due to federal regulations.
I believe tough times offer chances to reinvent ourselves. I've been reading books like "Crucial Conversations" and "Radical Candor," which emphasize that People Leadership creates productive, innovative teams. True People Leadership involves fostering belonging, viewing employees holistically, building trust for difficult conversations, and encouraging mutual challenges.
Reflect on your team's status this month. Burnout is real, with recent events impacting different groups. Challenging times are opportunities for growth. By embracing People Leadership, we can build resilient, innovative teams. Let's support our teams, prioritize well-being, and move forward with renewed purpose and resilience.
